Robert Hagan is one of Australia’s best-known contemporary
impressionistic artists. He has firmly established his presence in
Australia, the UK and the United States.Robert approaches his art
with imagination, spontaneity and robustness. Although he paints
various subjects - landscapes, seascapes and figurative - he insists
his paintings go beyond the recognizable.

“I make the painting like the recognizable subject, rather than
execute a literal representation. It’s better to paint the effect of what
is there. That is impressionism and that is how I paint.”

Robert Hagan was born in 1947, raised in some of Australia’s
most impressive coastlands of northern New South Wales and
was educated at Newcastle University, NSW. He holds a degree
in Economics with a diploma in education. Hagan left his teaching
profession in his late 20s to try his hand at painting - something in
which he had absolutely no training!

Robert Hagan has been painting professionally for twenty-five
years; to date he has had 18, one-man exhibitions, from London
to Sydney to Carmel; written and published seven books on and
about painting; judged art competitions and demonstrated his craft
to many aspiring artists worldwide.

He is presently in the process of launching a TV series called,
“A Splash of Color”, in which he paints, talks and entertains his
audience with his trademark, larconic, relaxed and enthusiastic
Aussie style. His sixth book is about to be launched entitled,
“Beautiful America - An Artist’s Odyssey”.
